The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has directed that all personnel and families of soldiers in Borno cantonment should be enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme under the Cantonment Medical Reception Station.
According to him, this will enable personnel and families to enjoy free medical care.
A statement on Friday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, indicated that the COAS gave the directive while responding to an inquiry from the Commanders, Abogo Largema Military Cantonment in Borno State.
The commanders, Lieutenant Colonels Aliyu Garba and Muphtau Arilesere, had in their briefs, stressed the need for increased capitation for the Cantonment MRS since it was serving both units.
They also intimated the COAS on the security situation in their area of responsibility, infrastructural status, and challenges of the units.
It partly read, “Responding to issues raised by the Commanders, Gen Lagbaja directed that all personnel and their families in the cantonment be enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme under the Cantonment Medical Reception Station to enable them to access free medical care, adding that capitation depends on the number of enrolees.
“The COAS also promised to address the challenge of infrastructure deficit in the cantonment.”
Onyema also said the COAS appreciated the soldiers for their service to the nation in ensuring peace and stability in their area of responsibility.
He added that socio-economic activities have been restored in the general area.
