The recently concluded Captain Inaugural tournament at Lafia Golf Club has made waves, setting new standards in the country’s golfing scene. Gideon Wala clinched victory in the men’s category one, showcasing exceptional skill on the course.

“Winning this tournament is a great honour. I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete alongside such talented golfers,” remarked Gideon Wala, the triumphant winner of the men’s category one.

Pam Fidelis also displayed prowess, securing the top spot in the men’s category two. “It’s a testament to hard work and dedication. I’m thrilled to have emerged victorious,” expressed Pam Fidelis.

The tournament which came to a close on Sunday not only celebrated individual triumphs but also underscored the camaraderie and sportsmanship inherent in golfing.

“The turnout for the Captain Inaugural tournament in Lafia has exceeded expectations. It reflects the growing popularity of golf in our nation,” noted Air Vice Marshall BD Solomon, Vice President of the Nigerian Golfing Federation.

The presence of esteemed guests, including former minister Chief Emeka Wogu and former Group Managing Director of NNPC, added prestige to the event.

“The commitment to enhancing Lafia Golf Club’s facilities is commendable. It demonstrates a shared vision for the advancement of golfing,” emphasized Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammed (rtd.).

Looking ahead, Arc. John Mlanga, Captain of Lafia Golf Club, expressed optimism about attracting investment to Nasarawa through golfing.

“We are poised to leverage the economic potential of golfing. With continued support, Lafia Golf Club can thrive as a premier destination for golf enthusiasts,” highlighted Arc. John Mlanga.

With over two hundred golfers and dignitaries in attendance, the Captain Inaugural tournament in Lafia stood as a testament to the enduring allure and competitive spirit of golf.

Sun reports that the event, spanning from April 19 to April 20, 2024, marked a milestone in the annals of golfing history, promising a bright future for the sport in Nigeria.
