Buhari chairs state council meeting Friday

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will chair a virtual meeting of the Council of State on Friday to deliberate on the upcoming elections, the new naira and fuel scarcity in some parts of the country, among other issues.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, will brief the Council on the electoral watchdog’s preparedness for the exercise slated for February 25 and March 11.

After briefing the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, Yakubu told State House Correspondents that he would be briefing the Council of State.

He said, “The briefing for the Council of State is going to take place on Friday, February 10. So basically, it’s about the readiness of the Commission to conduct the elections.”

Buhari, who presides over the meeting from the council chambers of the State House, is also scheduled to present his proposal for an award of the national honor of Order of the Federal Republic to the Executive Vice Chairman of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, Prof. Mohammed Haruna.

The Council of State comprise the President as chairman, the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (deputy chairman), all living former Presidents and Heads of State, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, all the 36 state governors and Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
