Olympic bronze medalist and African long jump record, Ese Brume will lead a couple of Team Nigeria athletes whose events coincides with the opening day of the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday.
Brume, 27, will be making her fourth straight appearance in the championships since she made her debut in London in 2017 and will be looking to go a step higher by winning the long jump gold after winning bronze (2019) and silver (2022).
Also opening his campaign on the first day is three- time Nigeria and reigning African Shot Put king, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Enekwechi, gunning for his third trip to the championships, will be looking to be lucky this time around by putting himself on to the podium and make history as the first Nigerian to do so.
The 30 year old will file out on the field of the National Athletics Centre in Budapest on Saturday aiming to do better than the record he set on his debut in 2019.
Other Team Nigeria athletes filing out for competition on the first day of action includes: long jumper, Ruth Usoro as well as sprinters, Seye Ogunlewe, Ushoritse Itshekiri and Favour Ashe.
While the duo of Usoro and Brume are expected to make it to the final like they both did at the 2022 World indoor and outdoor championships, the trio of Ogunlewe, Itshekiri and Ashe should also make it to the 100m semifinals.
