Bricklayer raped my eight-year-old daughter – Ogun woman

Must Read

A woman, Blessing Onoja, has bemoaned how a man known only as Omoh has allegedly raped her eight-year-old daughter in Ijaiye Street, Ogba Ayo, in the Ijoko area of Ogun State.

Speaking to our correspondent on Thursday, Onoja said she noticed two months ago that blood and water were coming out of her daughter’s private parts. Thinking the girl had contracted a toilet infection, she said she went to buy drugs from a pharmacy shop to give her.

She further stated that as the condition persisted, she took the child to her landlady who advised her to take the child to a hospital as well as question her more.

According to her, on getting home, the girl confessed that the bricklayer living in their neighbourhood had been defiling her.

Onoja said, “For two months now, I have been treating her toilet infection because I noticed that blood and water were coming out of her private parts.

“But on Monday, I took her to my landlady and when we returned, she confessed that one man, living in our neighbourhood, had been raping her and doing other things that I cannot explain to my daughter.”

The single mother of three, who said she leaves the house at 6am to return by 7pm every day, lamented that she usually left her daughter in the care of her eldest son as she went to sell food in the Oshodi area. However,  she said her 17-year-old son was learning how to cut hair in the area too.

She said she did not know what to do as her daughter was still having blood and fluid discharge up till now despite all medications.

She said the hospital she went to referred her to another health facility and asked her to report the case to the police station in the area, which she did.

“It’s almost two years since I moved into that neighbourhood, Ijaiye Street, Ile Iya Alata, Ogba Ayo, Ijoko. My yam business collapsed and I had to start going to help someone sell food in Oshodi. So, I usually leave her with my eldest child, who is learning barbing in the area.”

“I don’t know what to do right now, because, up till this moment, blood and water are still coming out of my daughter’s private parts.

“I went to the Ntabo Police Station, Sango Ota on Monday but the culprit had yet to be invited and he is not around now. I am so concerned for my daughter.

“I need justice for my daughter, I want the culprit to be exposed and let him face prosecution, so that others can learn,” she lamented.

When contacted on the matter, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that the case had not been properly reported and as such the police could not make any arrest.

Odutola said, “When the rape thing happened, because it’s not a recent matter, they told them to report to the police, but they didn’t until when the girl started feeling funny, and even now the case has not been properly reported.  They only went to a small police post and were told by the officer there that the station does not handle cases like that because it is like an outpost.

“They have not gone to properly incident the case and the police cannot make any arrest; there must be a cause for an action.

“They should go and report to the police but if they don’t, the police cannot take any action.”
