Three minutes later, Gabriel Martinelli sent a precise lofted cross into the box. Martin Odegaard latched on to it and finished with a quick low shot into the middle of the goal to make it 0-2.
West Ham pulled one back from the penalty spot on 33 minutes. Mohamed Said Benrahma sent the penalty kick low into the right of the net.
Bukayo Saka missed an opportunity to make it 1-3 for the visitors from the penalty spot but he threw it away. His shot went just wide of the left post.
Arsenal paid for not converting the penalty kick as West Ham levelled with a superb finish. Jarrod Bowen latched on to a stunning cross inside the box and slammed it past the helpless goalkeeper on 55 minutes to make it 2-2.
