forward, Akinkunmi Amoo, says he will return to training soon after recovering from a serious injury which kept him out of last season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Amoo picked up the injury during a training match last September and was ruled out for 10 months by the club after undergoing surgery and rehabilitation.

The former Golden Eaglets star shared the update on Tuesday morning in the heat of the sexual assault case he’s been entangled in, which saw him appear before a court in Denmark last Friday.

“I met with the medical team of Copenhagen this morning (Tuesday) to assess my leg with a possible return date from the injury I suffered last year. The medical team gave positive feedback. I want to appreciate my friends and family for their wishes and support during my recovery period,” Amoo posted on Twitter.

The 20-year-old has, however, been in the news over the alleged sexual assault and appeared in a Copenhagen court five days ago for the criminal charges, which were claimed by Danish authorities in April, July and August 2022.

According to a court judgment published by Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladet, which was shared on Twitter by journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Amoo was sentenced to an unconditional one-year jail term.

“It happened after he was found guilty of all three charges in the Copenhagen District Court by a dissenting magistrate on Friday afternoon, and it was a shaken man who received his sentence as he stood there in the middle of the room and listened to the outcome.

Amoo is also said to have appealed the court verdict just as his brother, Sunday Amoo, has claimed the player is not serving jail term.

“He was not sent to jail, no house arrest or travel ban. He is in his home in Denmark. The case is ongoing in court.

“The judgment was delivered last week Friday, and his lawyer has appealed. He can’t make an official statement because of the name ban in the Danish press. Unfortunately, this case is blackmail, and we will continue to fight for justice. Akin was not sent to jail.”

The 20-year-old was part of Nigeria’s side that finished fourth at the 2019 U-17 AFCON and also dazzled at the World Cup. in Poland.

Amoo joined FC Copenhagen from Swedish side FC Hammarby on a contract till the end of 2026 in January 2022 and the 20-year-old won his first career league title with the Danish giants last year.

He only played two games for the club last term before his season-ending injury. If everything goes well for him in the appeal, he will be eager to return to full action for the team that paid €4.4m for his signature.
