The Supreme Court has affirmed Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress as the governor of Sokoto State.
A five-member panel of the court, in a unanimous judgment on Thursday, held that the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Sa’idu Umar challenging the election of Aliyu, lacked merit
Umar the PDP candidate in the March 18 governorship, 2023 election and his party were contesting the victory of Aliyu.

Umar and his party had first approached the Election Petitions Tribunal which dismissed his petition and validated the election of Governor Aliyu.
Not satisfied, they filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal. The appellate court also affirmed Aliyu as governor.
