Must Read

Ahead of the Kogi State November 11, 2023 governorship election, the candidate of the Accord Party, Admiral Usman Jibrin (retd), has pledged to work with the Federal Government in resuscitating the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

The former Chief of Naval Staff made the pledge on Tuesday while speaking with supporters in Ajaokuta Local Government Government of the State as part of his ongoing campaigns ahead of the poll.

Addressing Ajaokuta residents, Jibrin pledged to create ‘thousands of jobs and revitalise the local economy.’

While urging the people of the state to vote massively for him, the retired naval boss noted that if elected governor, he would carry out ‘a multi-faceted approach to job creation, including the revitalisation of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, tackle insecurity, and empower youths in small and medium-scale enterprises.’

A statement signed by the Usman Jibrin Media Team quoted the governorship candidate as saying, “My first commitment to job creation involves the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited. This move has the potential to not only generate numerous jobs directly within the company but also to stimulate various downstream industries. The revival of the steel company has long been a dream for the region.

“By creating a secure environment, Ajaokuta and the surrounding areas can attract much-needed investments. A peaceful atmosphere is crucial for businesses to flourish, leading to job opportunities for the local population.

“We will empower young people through small and medium-scale enterprises. We will provide training, funding, and mentorship to enable youths to establish and grow their businesses. This approach not only promotes entrepreneurship but will also help to create sustainable employment opportunities.”

Recognising the abundant natural resources in the area, Jibrin suggested attracting renewable energy companies to invest in solar and wind energy projects, creating jobs in the renewable energy sector for the people of the local government and the state in general.
