Kano state Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, has urged all contractors handling abandoned and uncompleted projects in the Ministry to go back to site, promising that the current administration is ready to settle inherited debts.
He said the move was in an effort to complete all the abandoned schools projects for effective utilization of government properties.
A Statement by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Director Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Education, indicated that the Commissioner disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of association of Kano indigenous Contractors, held at the Ministry of Education premises.
Umar Doguwa stated that, “any contractor with a record of uncompleted or abandoned school projects from the year 2011 -2015 should submit to the ministry for verification and further necessary action.”
He explained that, ” the main focus of the present administration as per the schools renovation is to ensure completion of all abandoned projects and settle contractors with clear record of completed projects but yet to be paid by the previous administration.”
Doguwa maintained that, “the administration of Engr. Abba Kabiru Yusuf is determined towards construction of enough schools that would cater with the demand of Kano State having the highest population in the country.”
The Commissioner expressed concern over the way and manner the contractors suffered from what he called total neglect by the immediate-past administration which he said had led to abandonment of schools projects in the state.
He said the ministry would provide record sheet for the contractors to fill and update government with all information regarding the status of their projects.
” As directed by His Excellency, the Governor, we are going to look in to your problems and I assure you that government will do the needful, because our major concern is to build more schools in Kano and give our children the most needed education ” he added.
Doguwa further called on the contractors to make sure that as soon as they finish with the documentation exercise, they mobilize to their respective projects sites to ensure speedy completion.
Speaking on behalf of the contractors, the Chairman, Association of Kano Indigenous Contractors, Alhaji Yusuf Garba, expressed their gratitude for having the privilege to voice out their problems.
” I want to inform the Hon. Commissioner that for years, our members have been neglected and denied from what supposed to be given to them as their rights and as result of that many of us were paralyzed,” Yusuf stated.
He assured the Commissioner of their total compliance to mobilize to their respective projects sites and execute quality work to achieve the desired goals.
