Must Read

A group under the aegis of the Yoruba Movement has commenced a re-election campaign for Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, promising residents of greater rewards and a prosperous future.

The movement was led by the Executive Chairman, Gombe State Sports Commission, Dr Larry Daniel-Terry, who visited the Gombe State Oba of Yoruba, women groups and churches in the state to canvass support for the continuity of Governor Yahaya’s administration in the forthcoming election.

The PUNCH reports the churches visited include Calvary Baptist Church Buba Shongo, First Baptist Church Jekada Fari, Emmanuel Baptist Church Nasarawa, and Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church No.1 Herwagana, all in Gombe.

At the churches visited, the members appreciated the team leader for identifying with them at this critical political time and also expressed their diverse concerns and grievances ranging from the discrimination they face, difficulty in gaining indigene letters, lack of admission for their children, lack of employment opportunities for their educated youths, among others, while calling for more dividends of democracy from the Yahaya-led administration.

Daniel-Terry, who is a Yoruba man born in Gombe State, said the essence of the tour was to mobilise the Yoruba community to come out in its entirety, “during Saturday’s general election and vote for Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya because of his credibility and how he has been able to carry them along in the state,” he said.

While describing Yahaya as a man of his word, as he has shown through appointments of non-indigenes, Daniel-Terry added, “he has proven himself through the appointments he has given to members of the Yoruba community in the state and assured everyone that the administration is ready to do more.”

In their separate remarks, the special adviser to the governor who doubles as the State APC Yoruba Women Leader, Bintu Ibrahim, and the State APC Yoruba Youth leader, Tajudeen Sadiq, also expressed satisfaction with the leadership style of the state governor and promised youths and women inclusion in enjoying total dividends of democracy.

Earlier, the Oba of Yoruba, Alhaji Abdulwasiu Jimoh-Oluwanishola, at his kumbiya kumbiya palace offered royal blessings and prayers for the success of the APC, before interacting with his people, as well as some women groups.
