Traditional ruler regains freedom in Plateau

Mr Diket Gupiya, a traditional ruler in Plateau State, has regained his freedom after being abducted a week ago by terrorists.

The paramount ruler of Pushit district in Mangu Local Government Area, Gupiya, who spent one week with his abductors, was released on Friday.

A close relative of the state Deputy Governor, Sonni Tyoden, was abducted on 24th February 2022 at his palace in the Pushit community.

The District Head was said to be in his palace watching the news around 9 pm when the terrorists attacked his palace and took him away to an unknown place.

The abduction of the District Head was the third time gunmen had kidnapped traditional rulers in the state in two months.


A resident told DAILY POST, “We have been jubilating since last night since we got the news of the release of our traditional ruler.”

Ubah Ogaba, the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, confirmed the release of the traditional ruler.

According to him, “I just got a situation report over there and I can confirm to you that the kidnapped traditional ruler has been released and has been reunited to his family.”
