Bandits have reportedly killed three people in a renewed attack on communities in the  Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to residents, the bandits killed a motorcyclist in the Entekpa council ward and two others in the Udabi community within Otukpo LGA on Saturday.

Banditry and killing by armed herdsmen are major security challenges in Benue State, resulting in ceaseless killing and displacement of residents.

Last Thursday, bandits killed two farmers, who had earlier been displaced from their community and were taking shelter in the Internally Displaced Persons camp in the same Entekpa council ward.

The Chairman of Otukpo LGA,  Alfred Omakwu, while confirming the latest attack, said three people were killed.

Omakwu said, “We lost three youths in Entepka; one person who was riding a motorcycle was attacked and killed on Saturday. The killers went away with his motorcycle.

“When they came out from the bush at Udabi they saw two people in Adoka Icho and killed them without provocation.

“The killers are Fulani herdsmen and we have been having a series of meetings with their leaders,  but we were informed that those ones that killed these young men came from Nasarawa State.

“They claimed that  they don’t know the killer herdsmen.”

Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Catherine Anene, were not successful as calls made to her cellphone were not answered.
