Three persons were crushed to death on Friday after a Mercedes Benz jeep rammed into a commercial tricycle, also called Keke, around the Zarama Market along the East-West Road in Bayelsa State.
The remains of the victims, which included a male and two females, were evacuated to a mortuary.
One person was rescued alive and said to be in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital.
It was gathered that the Mercedes Benz jeep with number plate SAG 420 JP fatally hit the Keke with number plate KMT 346 VP, and killed three persons on the spot while another person was injured.
The driver of the vehicle was said to have escaped from the scene of the accident for fear of being mobbed by the market crowd.
The incident was said to have caused anger among traders and buyers at the weekly market, which takes place every Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
