State congress: Bauchi APC told to be just, fair to contestants

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has been advised to ensure fairness, equity and justice in the conduct of its state congress holding today.

The advice was given by an APC stalwart in the state, Alhaji Sanusi Baba Takko, who said the the advice became imperative in order for the party to avoid a repeat of the past.

Baba Takko said there was the need for the party to allow fair play as well as give equal opportunities to those seeking elective positions in the state congress.

According to him, today’s congress should be conducted in the overall best interest of the party and in the interest of justice and good conscience not only in Bauchi State but also across the country.

While warning party officials and those saddled with the responsibility of conducting the congress to be just and fair to contestants in the state with no preference, Baba Takko called on the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and members of the National Assembly from Bauchi State to ensure that all goes well during the elective congress.

This, he said, was to enable APC to be well positioned ahead of the 2023 election for it to be able to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

He submitted that anything contrary to allowing the interest of the majority of the party faithful during the state congress to prevail meant that the party had not learnt from its past mistakes which led its ouster from government in the state.

“Interestingly, it is on record, as every member of the party knows the task ahead of us, to defeat an incumbent governor is a very herculean task.

“All stakeholders of our great party must play politics of inclusiveness if we must win in 2023 and beyond. Unity of purpose should be our watchword because a house divided against itself cannot stand,” the APC stalwart declared.

He then called for a high sense of maturity in handling the affairs of APC in the state, submitting that Bauchi State has a pedigree of political sophistication that is legendary, which the party must imbibe.
