Porto and Colombia winger Luis Diaz has shown preference for Liverpool as his next destination, dashing the hope of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham.
The deal to take Diaz to Anfield will reportedly be worth £37.5million with £12.5m in add-ons.
O Jogo report it hasn’t yet been decided whether Diaz will make the move to Liverpool immediately or at the end of the season.
Tottenham believed they had an agreement with Porto for the 25-year-old ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
But Diaz’s preference was to sign for Liverpool and he held out for the move in order to play Champions League football.
Manchester United had also been linked with a move for Diaz, who rejected a move to Everton last year in exchange for his compatriot James Rodriguez.
Diaz will bolster the attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool pursue Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and try to win the Champions League and the domestic cups.
His presence will also shake up the ageing forward line of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, who are all approaching 30 and the final year of their contracts.
