Electorate on Saturday trooped out en mass at many polling units in Ikola, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State to cast their votes in the presidential and National Assembly elections going on across Nigeria.
Amongst polling units visited by this reporter are Unit 053 at the African Primary School; Unit 153 at Ige Estate, and Unit 154 on Godwin Iyamu Street.
Voters turned out massively and queued patiently to get accredited and cast their votes without disturbance.
However, the situation became very rowdy at Polling Unit 154 as voters who could not get accredited after hours of being in the queue due to the momentary failure of BVAS became agitated.
The tense situation was brought under control by some elders and youths in the area who did not want the process truncated by violence.
Among notable personalities who brought the situation under control was a party leader in the area, Hon. Jaiyeola Kamaldeen who, while speaking with P.M.NEWS, claimed to have been there as early as 6:30 am but was yet to vote past 1 pm. Hon. According to him, the situation was due to “the large turnout and the initial failure of the INEC’s BVAS Machine. But, we are already bringing it under control.”
When asked about his expectation of the election’s result, Jaiyeola said he believed the overall result would reflect the popular decision of the electorate.
He urged the people to be orderly in order to give room for a quick conclusion of the process.
