Politicians set Muslims, Christians against one another in Kaduna – Shehu Sani

Must Read

The former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has alleged that Muslims and Christians in the state are set up against one another for political gains.

This comment was following the state’s erstwhile governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s remark in a viral video where he told his audience that in the course of the electioneering campaigns, when “they”(Christians) tried to ask questions on why the Muslim/Muslim ticket, he deceived ‘them’ that it was not for religious dominance when in reality, the tickets both nationally and at the state level were for Islamic dominance.

He further said that the victory of Bola Tinubu as President had silenced the Christian Association of Nigeria, adding, “I will sustain an Islamic-dominated government for 20 years and unending not only in Kaduna State but in Nigeria at large.

Sani in a tweet on Wednesday, however, said he had read the reactions that trailed the video and it is nothing new.

“Bigotry is a state policy in Kaduna State for the past eight years.

“Muslim and Christians were set up against each other for political gains. Religious clerics were drafted and paid to propagate hate and divisiveness,” he wrote.

Sanni further alleged that the government purports itself as the champion of the interest of the Muslims while it inflicted suffering and hardship on the same people.

“The past government maintained a systemic policy of marginalisation and repression of the people of Southern Kaduna because of their faith and political choices.

“Over the years, some of their leaders were arrested for voicing out. The last act was the proscription of one of their groups,” he added.

The former senator, however, said most of such clips are cunningly and deliberately not done in the English Language.
