No fewer than 19 suspects have been arrested by the Police in Bauchi for various criminal offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide among others across the state.
The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed this in a media statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, and made available to journalists on Friday.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, said that on August 29, 2021, detectives of the Command arrested Idi Abdullahi (25), Rabiu Sulaiman (28), Aliyu Malam alias Majo (20) and Hassan Bako (30) all of Maina Maji.
“They conspired among themselves, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the house of one Jibrin Aliyu and shot him dead. They also stormed into the house of one Ibrahim Dai and kidnapped his son, one Idi Jibrin, to an unknown destination where they demanded a sum of one million five hundred thousand as ransom,” he said.
He added, “On 4th September 2021 at about 3.00am, information received from a Good Samaritan led to the arrest of Nasir Gaddafi (30), Abdulrahman Mahmood (40), Kabiru Saleh (48) all of Birshin Fulani and Tsakani.
“They conspired among themselves, armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, stormed the house of one Alhaji Dan’asabe Bayara where they shot one Danjuma Umar (53) to death.
“They robbed him of his valuables, kidnapped his son to an unknown destination, demanded and collected the sum of N800,000 as ransom.”
He further said that a 27-year old man was also arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend with whom he has two children.
According to him, the lady was found lying in a pool of blood at Sabon Kaura suburb of Bauchi metropolis and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
“On 7th October 2021 at about 4.45am, a joint patrol team in collaboration with the Peace and security committee, while on visibility patrol, sighted a young lady lying in a pool of blood with wounds on her head and blood gushing from her mouth at Sabon Kaura.
“The team evacuated the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi, where a medical doctor certified her dead.
“During the course of investigation, one Hajara Amos (56) of Bayara Village was identified as the deceased mother and also identified the deceased as Ruth Amos (28) of the same address.
“Consequently, investigation commenced in earnest where one Enoch Yohanna (27) of Gwallameji Doka was arrested. Upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to having committed the crime.
“Further investigation revealed that Enoch Yohanna and the deceased (Ruth Amos) were in a romantic relationship and blessed with 2 children.
“It was further revealed that on the date of the incident, Enoch sighted the deceased coming out of a compound and out of jealousy, he challenged her which led to an argument between them. In the process, he pushed her, she fell and hit her head on the ground,” he said.
The Police Spokesman disclosed that a team of policemen in collaboration with a vigilante group arrested one Abdulhamid Isah (25) of Kaura Kafai Toro L.G.A. He had conspired with others now at large and stormed the house of one Sule Ori armed with Ak-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons. They kidnapped his son to an unknown destination, demanded and collected the sum of N2 million as ransom.
He said that during the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime.
Other suspects, Wakil further said, are Fidelis Mathew (36) of Angwan kusu, John Besse (37) of Yelwa kagadama, Amos Haruna (20) of Yelwa kagadama, who were arrested on 18th September 2021 at about 12.30pm, by Policemen in collaboration with members of peace and security committee while on routine stop and search operation.
According to him, “The suspects who specialised in motorcycles snatching, conspired among themselves, attacked one Ali Usman (25) at Kakandam axis village, lynched the victim and made away with his boxer motorcycle. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime.”
Wakil who said that all the suspects are being profiled while investigations are ongoing, after which all of them will be charged to court for prosecution, assured the people of Bauchi of the Command’s endless and tireless commitment towards the security of lives and properties in the state.
