Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is in a comfortable lead with the declaration of results from 17 of the 21 local governments of the state in the governorship election conducted on Saturday.
Fubara has won massively in all the 17 local governments declared before the announcement and collation of the result was suspended on Sunday.
Rescheduled elections were held today, Sunday March 19 for Asari-Toru and Degema local government areas because of the inability of INEC to carry out the exercise there due to logistic problems and protests by some party agents on Saturday.
Also, the Labour Party in Rivers State has formally rejected the outcome of the governorship and state house of assembly election conducted in the state, describing the exercise as a broad day robbery.
The governorship candidate of Labour Party in Rivers, Mrs. Beatrice Itubo said this while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt alongside other chieftains of the party.
She alleged that INEC and the security agencies connived to thwart the will of the people in the election.
Itubo said the party is compiling evidence of all the electoral infractions that took place during the conduct of the poll and would approach the court for redress as soon as possible.
According to her, a town crier went round in many communities in the state warning intending voters not to come out for exercise unless they would vote in certain direction.
In the same vein, the Caretaker committee chairman of the party, Mrs. Hilda Dokubo said the decision of the party to reject the result and approach the court was to ensure that the state is not ruled by illegality.
Some of the State Assembly candidates of the party, including Mr. Domgba Meshach from Eleme constituency, Mr. Oporo Eliot of Abual Odual constituency, and Mr. Chukwunonye Azuh of Oyigbo constituency claimed that though electoral materials were carted away by thugs, INEC has been declaring results.
The party also claimed some of the security officials deployed for the election were part of the electoral violence that took place during the.
