two-year spell in the Italian league continue to draw praises and former AC Milan and Juventus striker Filippo Inzaghi is the latest to shower encomiums on the Nigeria international while labelling him the best in Serie A.
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille just over two years ago for an African record transfer fee of €81m plus add-ons.
The striker missed a significant number of games in his first season due to a series of health issues, ranging from injuries to coronavirus.
However, in his second season, the 23-year-old was absolutely spectacular, scoring 18 goals in 32 appearances.
So far this season, the Super Eagles striker has risen his level of performance and has been very consistent for the Partenopeans despite suffering a series of injuries.
Osimhen has had 13 goals contribution (10 goals and three assists) in 14 games this season and is currently the league’s top scorer with nine goals ahead of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic, who both have seven goals each.
In a quote by TuttoNapoli, an Italian publication, 2006 World Cup winner Inzaghi, has been left impressed with Osimhen’s quality.
“If we think of Napoli, Osimhen is a true centre-forward,” Inzaghi said as per TuttoNapoli.
“He attacks deep, and keeps the ball, Osimhen is probably the best right now. Beyond Benzema, who, however, is less of an area centre-forward and perhaps than (Olivier) Giroud.”
Osimhen is on course to make history with Napoli as they hope to end over 30 years wait to win the league. Luciano Spalletti’s side sit top of Serie A with 41 points, eight points clear of second-place AC Milan, the current champions.
