Nigeria collapsing under Buhari, says NANS

Must Read

The National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West (Zone D), on Friday, said the rate at which Nigerians were been killed by terrorists and other non-state actors had become a cause for concern.

This is as it noted that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had failed in his primary duty of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians.

The Coordinator of the zone, Adejuwon Olatunji, in a statement, called for support from well-meaning Nigerians both home and abroad to rise up and proffer a lasting solution to insecurity in the country.

According to Olatunji, Nigeria is already sitting on a keg of gunpowder ready to explode.

Part of the statement read, “It is so unfortunate to know that the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, cannot proffer a lasting solution to the current menace in the country such as insecurity.

“Provision of security is one of the main duties of the government. The government’s responsibility is to protect the lives and property of individuals and the state and since the President of the Country cannot guarantee Nigerians of their safety, he should hence tender his resignation honorably.

“A man with failed policies in different sectors such as security, education oil and many others should be quick to do the needful for the sake of democracy.

“In a country where kidnappers, bandits, and Boko Haram are operating freely and have not been apprehended, the government of the day has failed in her responsibilities/duties as stated in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In some other countries of the world, when the government fails in its responsibilities, the leader tenders his/her resignation to give room for someone better to pilot the affairs of the country. But in a country like ours, the reverse is the case.

“This is due to the insincerity of Nigeria’s leaders and politicians who prefer personal interest to national interest.

“The state’s existence is predicated on the protection of life and property. The protection of life and property entails that citizens are free to go around without fear of being attacked, intimidated, and kidnapped for ransom.”

The student leader also called for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, “with immediate effect” since the security architecture of the country has “collapsed under his watch”.
