Niger governor imposes curfew after murder of village head

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area in Niger state

This followed a violent clash that led to the killing of the village head, Mohammed Abdulsafur. He was reportedly murdered by some hoodlums on Saturday during a violent clash.

His directives are contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Matane, on Sunday in Minna.

Beginning from Sunday and lasting until further notice, Bello ordered that a curfew be imposed on the town from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

He stated that the curfew was imposed to assist security agencies in stabilizing the situation, save lives, and restore law and order.

According to the governor, the government strongly condemned the violence and lawlessness that occurred in Lambata town.

He urged the residents of the area to work with security agents to restore peace in the town and urged security agencies to enforce the curfew.
