Lagos celebrates best UTME candidate

The Lagos State Government has celebrated a science student of Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada, Dejo Segbenu, for his performance in the just-concluded 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The Lagos State Education District II, Maryland celebrated the school’s Assistant Head Boy who scored 352 out of a total of 400 marks ahead of other students who sat for the examination in the state.

Segbenu scored 94 in Mathematics, 98 in Chemistry, 96 in Physics, and 64 in English Language, making him the best candidate in Lagos State.

Speaking during her congratulatory visit to the school, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs Anike Adekanye, said Segbenu was celebrated  to underscore the positive impact of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts and investment in the education sector.

“The candidate with the UTME best result  is being celebrated to encourage others to improve on their efforts. I must, however, commend the teachers and the entire Education District II family for their dedication to service,” Adekanye said.

She urged Segbenu to remain focused and remember his background, school, and the Lagos State Government for the roles they played in his success in the examination.

She added, “My joy knows no bounds, especially with the success and achievement of the district, as recorded so far. The district is known for good results and achievements such as winning the Best Teacher Award in the state, the Best Artisan Award, the Best Student Award, including the best WASSCE result, and winning the Spelling Bee Competition with the prize of becoming the One-Day Governor, among others.”

The Principal of Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada, Mr Bayo Onifade, thanked the TG/PS of Education District II for the visit. He commended Segbenu and his teachers for their efforts while encouraging other students to emulate his excellent performance.

In his remarks, Segbenu said he achieved the remarkable feat because he gave priority to hard work and diligent study.
