Just In: Oyo govt reacts as huge explosion rocks Ibadan

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday evening urged residents of Ibadan, the state capital to remain call as a loud explosion rocked the city
The cause of the explosion which many residents in varoius parts of Ibadan said they heard cannot be ascertained as at the time of this report.

However, while some residents on social media attribute it to explosion of a gas station, others say it was a bomb blaat

There were also reports of high casualties from the explosion at the Adeyi Avenue area of Bodija, a high brow area of Ibadan.

Residents of the city have been sharing pictures of their buildings and other structures showing the impact of the huge explosion

The Oyo State Government on Twitter handle said the cause of the explosion is being investigated by security agencies.

“The Oyo State Government is aware of reports of an explosion in Ibadan. Residents are urged to remain calm as security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident,”;the state state government said
In another statement, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Oyo Commissioner for Information and orientation said

“Residents of Ibadan and immediate environ experienced an uncommon explosion about 8pm this evening.

“There are various interpretations of the incident but it is important for us to state categorically that the state government has taken over and in the full control of the unfortunate occurrence in in order to mitigate the incident.

“All security service chiefs including para military chiefs and Fire Operatives have been deployed by the governor to Reign in the spillover from the explosion.

“His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde therefore implores citizens to calm down and be rest assured that their interests are being looked after.”
