Govt intensifies campaign against sexual violence

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has continued its community advocacy against sexual and gender-based violence as it engaged artisans and members of Community Development Committees and Community Development Associations in the state on Tuesday.

A statement by the agency on Wednesday said the advocacy programme, which had over 150 participants in attendance, was organised at Alausa in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation as well as chairmen of all local governments in the state.

Welcoming participants to the event, Head, Community Engagement, DSVA, Mr Damilare Adewusi, who emphasised their crucial role in the advocacy, urged them to combat SGBV in their various communities.

He assured them of the state government’s unwavering commitment to zero tolerance for SGBV, ensuring justice prevails.

The statement further read, “The Executive Director, Centre for Women’s Health and Information, Mrs Atinuke Odukoya, took the first discourse which was the overview of SGBV, where she explained the various forms of abuse and the need for them to be mandated reporters in their respective communities and place of work and also assured that reporting cases was mandatory.

“The Executive Secretary, (DSVA), Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, took the second discourse which was on the relevant laws on SGBV. She also spoke on the infringements as well as the punishment for each of the offences.

“Mrs Tumininu Oni took the last discourse which was, exploring existing state structures, where she explained the holistic approach to eradicating sexual and gender-based violence in the state.”
