FRSC sympathises with Lagos train crash victims

The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Biu has expressed sympathy for the victims of the Lagos train crash that occurred on Thursday.

Biu advised that relevant authorities should construct level crossing railway gates to enhance safety in train operations across the country.

The PUNCH reports that a passenger train collided with a fully-loaded staff bus belonging to the Lagos State Government at the PWD rail crossing, off the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Six lives were claimed during the crash and dozens injured.

In a statement signed by the Corps Spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem on Friday, Biu called on traders to avoid the unwholesome practice of displaying wares around or on rail tracks.

 

The Corps Marshal also cautioned all categories of road users, to desist from undue interference with rail tracks whether or not the rails are being engaged by trains.

The statement read in part “The Corps Marshal commiserate with the families of the dead and also wished the injured quick recovery and the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the losses.

“He commended the FRSC team and all first responders like Nigeria Police, LASEMA, LASTMA for prompt rescue of the victims and promised that the crash will be investigated.”
