Four Borno LGAs to vote in super camps

Must Read

Eligible voters in four of the 27 local government areas of Borno State are to cast their votes in super camps in the 2023 elections due to enduring security challenges.

The LGAs are Guzamala, Marte, Abadam and Kukawa.

Voters from Guzamala are to vote at Gajiram and Nganzai LGAs while their counterparts from Marte LGAvare to assemble at the local government headquarters, Monguno LGA, for the exercise.

Voters from Abadam LGA are to exercise their franchise at Damasak and Mobbar LGAs; while their counterparts from Kukawa LGA also gather at Monguno to cast their votes.

Borno State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ibrahim Magaji Mohammed, who announced this to newsmen in Maiduguri, Wednesday, said the super camps would be cleared for them in schools of government buildings.

Mohammed assured that security agencies know all the insecurity flashpoints across the state, and had made adequate security preparations.

“We (INEC staff and other election personnel) will be going in a convoy, and we have discussed with the Nigeria Air Force to convoy the air cover; so let’s all hope visibility will be clear on the election day,” he said.

With regard to the enduring cash crunch, the REC said the Borno INEC office had already “finalised formalities” with the state’s branch of the CBN for the necessary cash required for daily expenses, explaining that such payments as the emoluments of ad-hoc staff would be paid online.

Mohammed said the Borno INEC office had taken delivery of 5071 BVAS machines, each configured with a polling unit and local government area, adding that there is also a backup of more BVAS machines to solve unforeseen problems.

Borno State has 2,513,281 registered voters for the 2023 elections.
