By Christopher Oji

Father of Whitney Adeniran, a  student of Chrisland International High School, Opebi, Lagos, who died during the school’s inter-house sports has said he is  suspecting foul play.

Mr Michael Adeniran, claimed that the circumstances and mystery surrounding her daughter’s sudden and unatural death, called for serious investigation to unravel the cause of her death.

According to him,his 12-year-old daughter, died at Agege Stadium on Thursday, February 9.

The bereaved father , said her daughter had no health issues or sickness as at  the time the school bus came to picked her up for the event, ” She was healthy when the school bus came to pick her for the competition. To the biggest shock of my life,by 1pm  of the fateful day, I got a call from my wife that she was informed that our daughter slumped  during the  inter-house sport and she was rushed to a  health centre in  Agege.

“Unfortunately my wife was at the venue of the inter-house sport, but she was never informed untill they had conveyed my child out of the venue. When my wife told me , I  rushed down to the health centre; unfortunately, I saw my daughter lying cold dead ; her lips and  tongue, have turned  black. Why should her lips and tongue turned black. I can’t just understand.

“When I asked what happened to her,the school authority could not give me useful information as to what happen to my child.

” I  gave Chrisland school a healthy and   vibrant young girl ,but Chrisland returned to me,  a dead child. My entire family is in deep sorrow, but the school authority claimed they knew nothing about my daughter’s death, and all they know was that my daughter slumped and died.

“Unfortunately my daughter was conveyed to the health centre with the school bus; not a fully equiped ambulance, no safety corps at the venue, no paramedic except the school  nurse, Who later confessed to me that my child died at the stadium, but she could  not pronounce her dead because she is not a doctor. My question is what happen to my daughter at the stadium?

“As a father, I demand an  answer from Chrisland international High school. I am in deep pain, and sorrow right now. If you are a father you will understand my pain. My daughter is still highly loved by us. We cherished her existence, and we can never allow an institution to gloss over the death of our daughter.I  am appealing to the Police to investigate the death of my daughter. I also appealed  to Nigerians to come to my aid, because I  don’t want my daughter to die in vain.”

When our Correspondent called the school  for reaction, the lady who picked the phone , refused to identify herself, but said she was not in the position to comment on the incident.

She said: “The phone number you are calling is for education enquiries, you may come to the school on Monday for confirmation*.

However,  Lagos State  Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the matter was reported to the command, but that investigation was ongoing.

He said: ” No arrest has been made, but homicide section of the command has  begun investigation into the matter ,and will unravel what transpired “
