Farmers in Ido-Ekiti, Ido-Osi Local Government Area (LGA) on Monday urged the state Governor Biodun Oyebanji to enforce the anti-grazing law against invaders of their farms.

Mr. Oluropo Dada, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ido-Ekiti chapter, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Ido-Ekiti.

Dada stated that the constant invasion of their farms by suspected local cattle herders had become a major issue for farmers in the community.

He noted that on Wednesday, one of the association’s large farms was destroyed by cows, that did not spare the farm’s vegetables and food crops.

The chairman urged Governor Oyebanji to enforce the anti-grazing law in order to protect the environment.

“I want to appeal to our governor to enforce the anti-grazing law against invaders of our farms. Currently, our farms are being encroached on by cows, destroying our food crops and vegetables planted on the farm.

“We want the state government to assist us to secure our farms from further invasion by suspected local cattle herdsmen within and outside the community,” he said.

However, the chairman appealed to Dr Lawrence Ogunsina, to help the farmers repair the roads leading to the farms to ease the smooth transportation of their harvested crops during the current rainy season.

He added that most of their farm produce always spoils on the farm because of the poor roads which are not accessible by vehicles.
