Champions League: No leadership – Steve McManaman slams Messi, Mbappe, others after elimination

Former Real Madrid star, Steve McManaman has hit out at Paris Saint-Germain players, including Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, after their elimination from the Champions League.

McManaman said PSG players were not organized against Real Madrid, adding that there was no leadership in their squad during the encounter against the LaLiga giants.

PSG lost 3-1 against Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie on Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A hat-trick from Karim Benzema ensured Real Madrid qualified for the quarter-final, as Mbappe’s goal was not enough.

Real Madrid qualified on a 3-2 aggregate win, having lost 1-0 in the first leg in Paris.

“We expected PSG to unravel, it just wasn’t in this game because they were so far on top at half-time,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“PSG did what PSG have always done, when they come under pressure, they absolutely melt away.

“There was no organization, no leadership, yet from Real Madrid, it was just an incredible, excellent, fantastic night, and another historic evening for this team in white.”
