From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi
The Chairman, Nkwo Nnewi Butchers Association, Anambra State, Mr Nonso Onyetube, has cried to the state government over deplorable condition of access road to their slaughterhouse.
Onyetube who made the call, yesterday, said the butchers had always found it difficult to transport their livestock to customers due to bad condition of road occasioned by the rainy season.
He said his greatest priority is to attract government attention to the bad state of road. “The access roads are terribly bad. We want our able Governor Charles Soludo to come to our rescue because it is above our capacity to handle, “he appealed.
This is even as he made case for a standard abattoir in Nnewi to enhance their business operations, urging those who were yet to register with his association to do so without hesitation for easy control of butchers in Nnewi.
He condemned a situation where, according to him, cows were slaughtered elsewhere without certification only to bring them to sell to meat consumers.
“There are butchers who slaughter cows here and there at unapproved places unknown to our association who flood the meat market with such cow meat,” he added.
