Borno budgets N234.8 bn for schools, roads next year

Borno State government planned to spend N234.8 billion on building of more schools, health facilities, road expansion, development of agriculture, humanitarian interventions, payment of salaries and pension next year. 

State governor, Babagana  Zulum disclosed this Wednesday, during the presentation of the 2023 Appropriation and Finance bill to the state House of Assembly in Maiduguri, state capital.

*A total sum of N234,831,950,000.00 has been budgeted for the 2023 fiscal year,’ Zulum announced.

He explained the budget was made up of N144.2 billion appropriation for capital expenditure and N90.7 billion for recurrent expenditure.

He said the budget will be financed from Recurrent Revenue of N137.8 billion  expected from the monthly federal allocation from the Federal Account Allocation Committee. (FAAC).

He said government planned to use the budget to complete all the ongoing projects, build higher Islamic Colleges, two additional School of Nursing and health facilities.

Others according to the governor, include construction of two major flyovers in Maiduguri, more raids and drainages, development of agriculture and increase of humanitarian interventions.

The governor said he will remove embargoes on promotion of public servants and their entitlements. He asked the people of the state to give him a second mandate. He promised to settle all the backlog of gratuities and pension.

The 2023 appropriation tagged Budget of Continuity for Sustainability, is about N34 billion less than the 2022 budget which is N268 billion.

Ministry of Finance got the biggest allocation of N30 billion, followed by N28 billion for education and works got N25 billion. Health has N19.9 billion while Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement sector was earmarked N19.6 billion.
