Ahead of 2023 general elections, the leadership of Peoples Democratic party, (PDP), and All Progressive Congress, (APC), in Benue state have reiterated their commitment to ensure peace through out the election period.
The APC chairman, Austin Agada and that of the PDP, Mr Isaac Mffo made this commitment during a meeting with the state Commissioner of Police, CP. Wale Abass, which held at the Commissioner’s office in Makurdi.
The meeting came barely 24 hours after the PDP, alleged in a press conference that there is an ongoing manipulation of voters in rural areas of the state.
The party stated that there was also anxiety and confusion being generated by the activities of some yet to be identified elements who are reported to be going about in our rural areas with documents with which they are requesting and in some cases collecting voter identification details of the people.
The party had called on security agents to investigate and apprehend those persons as their activities are likely to subvert the electoral process and distort peace and the popular mandate of Benue electorate.
Speaking during the meeting, the party leaders urged their members to adhere to the peace pact earlier signed by all party executives.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, explained that the meeting was convened to address the issue of clashes between political rallies in the state.
He warned that he will not spare anyone who decides to truncate the efforts of the command to maintain peace in the state before, during and after the elections.
