President Goodluck Jonathan has been called upon to intervene in the disputed oil wells between Kogi and Anambra States.
The group also called on President Jonathan to declare Kogi State as an oil producing state.
Making the call yesterday, youths under the aegies of Kogi Youth Progressive Association (KYPA), in a statement signed by the Chairman, Alhaji Bello Ibrahim, said: “Federal Government’s decision to designate Anambra State as an oil producing state, while leaving Kogi State out did not take into consideration the fact that the oil well is as well located in Kogi.”
According to the group, the crude oil that will be used Orient Oil Refinery, Agurere-Anambra State, recently inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan is located in Odeke, a community in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.
“The Federal government should not take side and should be seen as part of the crisis because the issue has been on since 1994, but nothing has been done since then by the Federal Government, so the best way to resolve the matter is to declare Kogi where the crude was found as an oil producing state along other benefiting states,” Ibrahim noted.
The group also urged the state governor, Captain Idris Wada, to wade into any possible communal clash, which may arise between the contending neighbouring communities.
by opening up discussions with the Anambra State government with the view to clarifying the boundary issues.
