By Philips Adefioye:

Hiring of a foreign Technical Adviser  should have been better during the second stanza of the World Cup qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup holding in to South Africa. from June 11 to July 11.

Lagerback

Former Lyngby Boldklub football club of Denmark midfielder, Emeka Ezeogu
told Sunday Vanguard sports in an exclusive interview that Lars Lagerback’s appointment was a step in the right direction but too late in coming as it could not guarantee the team any bright hope at the Mundial.

Ezeogu said that Lagerback’s philosophy of the game is based more on caution, pointing out that he does not know how the Swede can reconcile that with the philosophy of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA and the football culture in Nigeria.

“His appointment is a step in the right direction but if he had come during the second phase of the World Cup qualifying series, he would have made great impact. His philosophy of the game is  based more on caution and I don’t know how he can reconcile his philosophy  and the culture of football we have in this country.

It is going to be very difficult. We have players in this country who are tactically unruly. I don’t know how he can cope with that because with his philosophy of the game, it is going to be  consulting, caution until your time comes and you seize it.

Concerning Lagerback’s comment that the best Nigeria players are not in the national team, Ezeogu said that for over ten years the Nigerian technical crew have not done any scouting as far as national team is concern.

“I quite agree with what Lagerback said, we have a lot of players out there that are doing wonderfully well in their clubs. The best of Nigerian players have not yet been invited to the Super Eagles.

It is a thing of going through the internet and doing a research on how they are playing regularly in there clubs without travelling to their clubs,” he said, adding, that there is need to invite new players to the Eagles  to blend them with the old ones who are fit for the World Cup.
