The people of Tarok, an ethnic nationality in Plateau State, yesterday, stormed the state House of Assembly protesting against the last week’s alleged killing of its kinsmen at Wase Local Government Area of the state by soldiers.
Over 50 villagers were reportedly killed with another 150 people were injured and several houses burnt during the attack which occurred at Kadarko, Mutum Biyu, Wadatan Arewa, Wadatan Kasuwa communıtıes of the LGA.
The protest to the Assembly yesterday, was led by the Plateau North chapter of the Tarok natıon. The protesters, who were dressed in black attires, carried placards wıth various inscriptions such as ‘soldiers are terrorist and political hired killers, “Is Tarok land a Sambisa forest?’’ among others.
They presented a protest letter to the lawmakers condemning the alleged extra judicial killing of innocent civilians in Wase Local Government Area of the state, stressing that urgent need should be taken by the law makers to step up efforts to probe the wanton killings.
Chairman of Ngwan Ishi Otarok Northern zone, Mr. Nagor Ndam Nagor while presenting the letter to the speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Titus Alams, described the ınvasıon of the affected villages as a conspiracy which has manifested in the killing of harmless and helpless civilians and burning of their corpses, while urging the House of Assembly to put an end to the extra judicial killing of innocent citizens of the state.
The Speaker, who received the protesters, also condemned the killings, saying the house will work hand in hand with the national Assembly to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. He lamented that major tribes in the state are under attack on the Plateau which portends danger, stressing that after the attack on the majority tribes, the minority groups may be the next object of attack.
He assured that the House will take a critical look at the complaints and direct appropriate action to be taken against the perpetrators saying, nobody will play politics with the matter as it bothers on the survival of not only the Tarok nation, but the entire Plateau people.
“We have received your petition as members of seventh assembly; we shall ensure that adequate attention is given to it”. He assured A member representing Wase, Hon .Daihibu Dauda, said, for the past two to three years, the area had been engulfed in crises as witnessed recently when some military men went and Killed people in Kadarko District
