NIGERIAN security operatives have reportedly arrested two suspects after some gunshots were allegedly fired in the vicinity of United States (U.S.) Embassy at Plot 1075, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District, Abuja, yesterday.
While the matter could not be confirmed from Nigerian security services as the time of going to the press, a statement e-mailed to The Guardian by the Information Office, Public Affairs Section of the embassy, reads: “We believe there were shots fired in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy. The Nigerian authorities have two individuals in custody. We refer you to the Nigerian police for further information.”
However, when contacted, Mr. Femi Omowunmi of the Public Affairs Section of U.S. Consulate General, Lagos, declined to comment further on the issue, saying that the embassy had no further statement on the issue other than the above media release.
