TRAGEDY struck at the weekend on Okumagba Avenue, Warri, Delta State when one Chukwuka Kelubia, 29, used a broken bottle to stab to death Solomon Onyeoghani 24, over an alleged missing internet modem.
It was learnt that the assailant hid himself close to Solomon’s house and suddenly emerged to stab him several times in the neck region with a broken bottle.
Now bleeding profusely, Solomon was said to have struggled and ran towards a private clinic but slumped at the gate and died.
Kelubia, a student of Auchi Polytechnic, had last Tuesday accused Onyeoghani, a 300 -level student of the Department of Business Education, Delta State University, Abraka of being responsible for his missing internet modem an accusation the late Solomon vehemently denied.
Sympathizers who thronged to the deceased’s home on 13, Osamede Street, Warri, said Kelubia had been causing residents of the area sleepless nights as he had been severally fingered as a member of an armed robbery gang terrorizing Warri and environment.
They said Solomon’s killing has confirmed their suspicion that Kelubia may be a member of one of the cult groups in the area.
The father of late Solomon, Mr. Augustine Onyeoghani, said his son had earlier told him about the false accusation over the missing internet modem, adding that he had already contacted Chukwuka on phone on how best to resolve the issue before the same Chukwuka came to him that Friday and said he was going to kill his son.
In tears, Onyeoghani said, “When my son told me, I went to Chukwuka’s father because we are neighbours and we come from the same Ika North East.
“The father promised to call his son to order. I personally called Chukwuka on phone and he told me that he was not around. When he eventually came to my house on Friday, he told me he was going to kill my son, Solo. This happened around 4:30pm.”
A senior police officer at the B-Division Police Station, Warri, confirmed the incident, saying that Chukwuka’s father had been at the station for fear of attack from late Solo’s relations.
The house where Kelubia lived at No 9, Osamede Street Okumagba Avenue has been deserted as people were afraid of being arrested by the police.
