Inauguration of the eighth Katsina State House of Assembly was yesterday morning disrupted by thugs and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The thugs and APC supporters, who thronged the premises and chamber of the Assembly, kept legislative proceedings from holding.

With the disruption, the inauguration as well as election of the new leadership of the House was shifted till 4pm yesterday.

It was learnt that the development may not be unconnected with rancour amongst members of the APC, over who should become the new Speaker of the House.

A meeting held between the state government and the lawmakers up till the wee hours of yesterday, was deadlocked over who should become Speaker.

The state government, it was learnt, was backing Hon. Aliyu Sabiu Munduru, representing Mani state constituency, while some lawmakers were in support of another candidate, Hon. Haruna Aliyu Yamel, representin Dutsi state constituency for the position.
