Sokoto Sets Up C’ttee on Almajiri Schools
Mohammed Aminu
Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Professor Lawal Bashar, made this known Saturday , during a visit to the Almajiri Model Primary School in Gagi area of Sokoto metropolis.
He said the establishment of the committee was meant to ensure efficiency in the running of the Almajiri schools in the state. The SUBEB boss noted that the cost of running the Almajiri Model School in Gagi area could not be justified by the mere enrolment of 50 pupils in the school, stressing that the Almajiri Model School was built with the capacity to accommodate at least 260 pupils.
He emphasised that the number of students would be increased very soon. The SUBEB Chairman maintained that government has expended a lot on the school, hence the need to justify the huge investment by increasing enrolment of pupils at the Almajiri school.
It would be recalled that the Almajiri Model School was inaugurated last April by President Goodluck Jonathan, with the enrolment of 50 pupils.
The SUBEB boss explained that modalities would be put in place to ensure that the schools were managed effectively.
