Army chief advocates joint effort to curb insecurity

Ihejirika, who was represented by the Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, Ilorin, Kwara State, Brig. Gen Saidu Bello, spoke in Ilorin on Monday during the opening of the maiden edition of Nigerian Army Education Corps warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers training week.

The training is titled, ‘NAEC and the Nigerian Army transformation process: The roles of warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers’.
Ihejirika canvassed good relationship among the military, para-military, other security agencies and the civil populace. He stated that it was imperative to foster understanding and cooperation of the stakeholders in the efforts towards surmounting the security challenges in the country.
He explained that the establishment of the Department of Civil Military Affairs to spearhead the promotion of cordial relationship between the Nigerian Army and the civil populace was, therefore, apt.
Ihejirika urged members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to continue to be extra vigilant and mindful of their environment. He advised them to guard their utterances especially when interacting with others, adding that they should report suspicious activities to their superiors.
He urged the participants to apply the knowledge they would acquire from the training and be more security conscious.
He implored members of the NAEC to continue to contribute towards the realisation of the Nigerian Army’s transformation process, which he said, would only be possible through training and re-training.
Acting Commander, Major-Gen. Musa Banjiram, stressed the need for professionalism in the Nigerian Army, adding that it led to the training. He stated that professionalism in the Nigerian Army had become more apparent, taking into consideration the security challenges confronting the nation.
Banjiram said NAEC would continue to educate all Nigerian Army personnel in French and Arabic languages. He added that the corps would educate all illiterate soldiers within the shortest time possible and enhance the infrastructural development of command schools.
