The Nigerian Army has pledged to ensure strict compliance to human rights regulations and discharge its duties according to constitutional provisions.
The Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Brig.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, made the assertion on Thursday in Abuja when he visited Prof. Bem Angwe, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission.
“The Nigerian army now has a new face. It is now a responsive Nigerian Army that discharges its responsibilities according to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The Nigerian Army is now an army that respects the rule of law that is why the present army has recalled the soldiers that were wrongly dismissed.”
Nicholas said the visit was to expand areas of existing collaboration between the Army and the commission and to encourage more cooperation and dialogue where there was friction. Read More →

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday requested the approval of the Senate to appoint 15 Special Advisers, who will assist him to carry out his functions as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
The President, in a letter addressed to Senate President, David Mark, said his request was in accordance with the Section 151 (1), (2), (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after he took his oath of office at the Eagle Square in Abuja on May 29.
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has also become the vice president after taking the oath of office.

A group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, has instituted a fresh suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to stop the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, from swearing the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday.
The suit filed on Tuesday is also seeking an order nullifying the certificate of return issued to Buhari by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The plaintiff hinged the suit on the allegation that Buhari did not qualify to contest the presidential election on the grounds that he gave false information about his academic qualification to INEC. Read More →

There was panic again in Ado Ekiti on Monday as members of the Peoples Democratic Party and supporters of Governor Ayodele Fayose laid siege to the Ekiti State House of Assembly complex in order to halt the resumption of the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers.
Fayose had announced in a statewide broadcast on Sunday that the lawmakers planned to take over the assembly to commence their impeachment proceedings against him.
