Senate approves N87 billion for INEC
By: Emmanuel Ogala
The Senate has approved a supplementary budget of N87.7 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to aid the commission in organizing credible elections in 2011.
The approval is N2 billion less than the N89.59 billion the electoral body had requested. Following a meeting of INEC officials and INEC committee members of both the House of Representatives and Senate, parties agreed to cut down the amount.
“At the end of our meetings, we looked at the budget thoroughly and saw that there were areas in which we needed to give serious attention like transportation and logistics,” Ayogu Eze, the senate’s spokesman said, adding
“We moved money around and put money in crucial areas and made a saving of N2 billion.”
