POLICE in Nasarawa State, on Tuesday, said about 30 persons were arrested for allegedly committing various electoral offences during the just-concluded general elections in the state.
The suspects would soon be charged to court for offences, ranging from criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, to disturbing public peace and snatching of ballot boxes during the Presidential/National Assembly and Governorship/State House of Assembly elections in the state.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), a copy of which was made available to the Tribune in Lafia, the state capital, added that two AK 47 rifles were recovered from them.
Other items recovered, according to the PPRO, were three locally made rifles, 18 cutlasses, four knives and nine 7.62mm round of live ammunition, damaged ballot boxes, as well as ballot papers and other election materials.
He said the suspects, who were arrested in different parts of the state, would soon be charged to court, adding that investigations have also commenced to apprehend other suspects, who committed similar offences, but now at large.
