Confusion has continued to trail the decision of the Niger Delta ex-militant commanders to convey a meeting on the next frontier of their agitations scheduled to take place in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital this Saturday, even as Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, the convener and the ex- militant leaders insisted that the meeting will hold as scheduled.
Tompolo on Thursday denied that the meeting convened by him and other ex-militant generals under the aegis of the dreaded Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) was to reactivate militancy in the region and frustrate the administration of President Muhammad Buhari.
But in a move to douse the palpable tension created by the announcement of the meeting in the state, Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, called for the postponement of the proposed meeting of the leaders of ex-agitators in the Niger Delta by the convener.
The government statement adds that “the Governor will meet with them soon, to discuss issues as it affects the ex-agitators and others issues of overall strategic interest of the region and the nation as a whole.”
