Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Isa Akanbi Shuabu, said at the weekend, that the command had intercepted seven adulterated fuel laden trucks and arrested 17 suspects arrested since his assumption in the state four months ago.
Shuabu in an interview with journalists in Akure, the state capital identified the state as one where illegal bunkering is very rampant stating that the seized trucks contained 156,600 litres of adulterated fuel.
The commandant, who said the command, had declared zero tolerance for illegal bunkering added that the interception and arrest were made at the river-rine areas of the state following a online casino tip-off saying some of them were already being prosecuted.
While blaming unemployment as one of the reason for the rampant illegal activities in the state, Shuabu said the command had been discussing with relevant agencies to be proactive in this regard.
“We are meeting relevant agencies to come up with reorientation and empowerment programmes for the youths, we have met with OSOPADEC they have shown interest, because if this illegal activities continue like this, it will tarnish the image of the state,” he explained.
Shuabu also pointed out that the NSCDC was working hand-in-hand with other security agencies in the state in a bid to eradicate crime in the state, calling on the people of the state to cooperate with men of the agency by fielding them information about any criminal activities in their environment.
