Businessman and proprietor of Ifeanyi Ubah United Football Club, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah says his intention in acquiring the former Gabros United FC was to further afford the youths of Anambra State and Nigeria an opportunity to express their talents and earn a decent living not for the purpose of engaging in football politics as expressed by some people. Ubah told Sports Vanguard at the weekend that the acquisition of the club is part of the strategic growth plan of his organization adding that the club has come not just to stay but to compete with the best in the country.
He also spoke on the leadership crisis rocking the Anambra State Football Association insisting that there is no other executive board apart from the one led by the former first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Mike Umeh whom he added he deputizes.
“To start with let me say that there was an election in Anambra FA and the chairman still remains Chief Mike Umeh and I am his deputy, so there is no ulterior motive as some people are insinuating, it is all about sports and growth, it is all about the youths of Anambra State and Nigeria.”
Ubah equally said very soon Anambra State will take its rightful place in Nigerian sports especially football, adding that the FA will assist anybody who wants to float a club in the state the necessary assistance to sustain a club that will be enjoyed by the soccer loving citizens of the state.
“Remember that in the past Anambra State has produced great clubs and players; we used to have Rangers, Udorji United and Jasper United but they have all fiddled out because there was no real support from the government but I want to make a mark, I want to prove a point that we can sustain and that we can set up a football club that will bring joy to the teeming supporters of football in the state and we can also use it as a point of growing football and sports in Anambra State for the interest of our youths’’, Ubah added”
He also reassured of his continuous support to the NFF especially the national teams saying even where he may not be visible, that his impact has always been felt by the Nigerian players and teams.
