A Niger Delta coalition of ethnic and civil society groups under the aegis of United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy, UNDEDSS, has warned against the consequences of further delay in the convocation of a sovereign national conference.
UNDEDSS in a statement by its Secretary General, Mr. Tony Uranta, spoke against the backdrop of renewed bomb attacks in the Northern part of the country, where over 38 persons were confirmed dead in a bomb attack in Kaduna on Easter Sunday.
Uranta said: “Enough is enough, we demand a sovereign national conference now.”
He said that while they desired the continuing unity of Nigeria, it must be founded on justice, equity, fair play and the rule of law.
“In a secular country like Nigeria, there cannot be assumed unity by coercion from any group or part of the state. Nigeria is at the brink and can only be salvaged by a conference where the federating units will decide how they want to governed. The earlier, the better,” he said.
