Moves to impeach the Benue State House of Assembly Speaker, Barr Terhile Ayua, heightened yesterday as eight All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the House have already begun the collation of signatures to perfect the plans.
The House, is made up of 30 lawmakers, eight of who are APC, while the remaining 22 are Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lawmakers.
National Mirror checks revealed that the lawmakers spearheading the removal of the Speaker are allegedly furious with the support of the Speaker for the executive despite their unpaid allowances and unpaid civil servant salaries in the state which is indebted to over N2 billion.
Investigations by National Mirror revealed that as at the time of filing this story, there were simultaneous meetings being held severally towards ensuring that the agenda is achieved.
Part of the Speaker’s sins for which they are bent on edging him out of office includes his non-sensitive stance on the excesses of the executive arm which has plagued the people of the state, most especially pensioners who are allegedly dying in numbers in the state due to hunger and starvation from their unpaid pension.
One of the lawmakers, Benjamin Nungwa representing Kwande/Ushongo state constituency recalled that allowances of members have been in arrears for over five months and urged the Speaker to brace up to the challenge by ensuring that they were paid their dues promptly.
Attempts to clarify the claims with the Speaker Hon. Ayua on the raging issues were futile as several efforts to get him on his mobile line were unsuccessful.
